Baby Butter Bean loves to dress in style while happily bobbing around in Momma's belly.
A day at the park was in order with the beautiful sunny weather we had this week. The boys went off together in search for adventure while Mom toddled behind with the camera, cheering the boys on and occasionally going down a slide or two.
The zip line is a definite hit. E can get going pretty fast...
And of course little U wants to do what big brother does. "Me too, Mama", said my blondie as he reaches his dimpled hands up to me.
The boys have their days where it is hard being around each other but today was not one of those days. Look at the smiles on their faces... awww!
After all of that fun:
It was time to go home and relax with a good book:
You have viewed the kitchen ( http://frugalzealot.blogspot.com/2010/02/not-me-wednesday.html ) and our bedroom ( http://frugalzealot.blogspot.com/2010/02/photo-friday.html ) in our 2010 Home Tour. Now I will take you to the boys room. If you continue on down our wee hallway
you will find a door like this:
And just inside are where my monkeys sleep, play, read, have sword fights, become dinosaurs, and make rude noises with Whoopie Cushions.
A couch and papassan chair provide comfy seating for buns of any size so I can visit with a friend while watching the kids play or Matt and I can snuggle with the kids before bed as we read the Bible together. The papassan chair doubles as a nest when the boys play pretend and the couch has been a donkey, a pirate ship, and all manner of things in between. My boys LOVE to use their imaginations.
Uriah’s dresser doubles as a changing table, there is a pad on top of the bureau so we can save room and not have to purchase another piece of furniture.
Underneath the couch the boys have their homemade wooden blocks from Papa and Heather as well as their collapsible tunnel that provides hours of entertainment and the foldable chairs (like the one Uriah is kneeling on in the picture). Since our home is compact we try to utilize our space to the best of it’s ability.
Bunk beds… I love this invention. It saves room, the boys love to climb and play on them, and I can still use the space underneath for those awesome rolling under the bed containers. The containers underneath their bed are labeled and store everything from trains and army men to swords, guns, and costumes. It is amazing how many of those rolling containers can fit under a bed. Plus, they pull out easily so even Uriah can access his toys.
Beside the bunk bed is a tower for toys on the bottom and Ethan’s special books near the top so he can crawl to the end of his bed, grab a book, and snuggle up and read. When he is finished he does not have to leave his bed to put the book away.
If you are sitting on the couch in the boys room here is the view you would have. Ethan’s bureau complete with Squiggly the mouse. ( Yes we are one of those families who actually paid for a rodent to live inside our home and we feed and nurture it.)
Nearby we have the bookcase and towers. Matt was at Walmart one evening when he notice the bookcase on clearance for $25... And it is solid wood! Woo Hoo! As you can see, my boys love to read. We have bookshelves scattered all throughout the house and we regularly weed through looking for books we do not read or did not enjoy in order to save space. My goal is to keep our book collection confined to the bookcases we have so we do not have to buy more furniture… such a hard decision to make.
The white towers harbor the boys toys. Most of the toys in the kids room are Uriah friendly. Any item that is not Uriah friendly goes downstairs into the game closet that also provides storage for Ethan’s big boy toys. (I will give you that tour later… warning… it is scary.) Yes, you do see labels (complete with category and picture) on the containers because I am twitchy about the kids putting like things away together. We have a box for tools, one for critters, one for stuffed animals, another for wheels, one for blocks and so on. It helps the kids take care of their toys quickly (most of the time) during clean-up and keeps their room in order.
I hope you enjoyed today's Photo Friday. I look forward to seeing you here next week as I take you about our dining room... the place where we gather to feed bellies, souls and minds. Until then dear readers, enjoy making your house a home.
With love,
Dawna
